User Research
To ensure the application addressed real-world challenges:
Factory Visitsspent time on-site observing maintenance tasks, logging processes, and understanding existing workflows. This helped identify pain points such as fragmented data storage, manual logging, and delayed access to information.
Interviewsconducted 8 interviews with collaborators, including factory operators and managers, to gather their expectations and frustrations with current systems.
Collaborative Sessionsmeetings with the client to align on project goals and priorities, ensuring the application met both business and user requirements.
João is a PERSONA focused on ease of data entry, access to assigned tasks, and visual clarity for quick decision-making.
User journey map
Identified key touchpoints where users interacted with maintenance systems, including task assignments, issue reporting, and equipment checks.Mapped pain points such as redundant data entry, lack of real-time updates, and difficulty accessing historical records.
Designed the future journey with the application, highlighting streamlined steps, reduced friction, and faster access to critical data.
Wireframes
Low-fidelity wireframes were developed to translate research insights into tangible layouts:
- Initial sketches focused on optimizing navigation and ensuring key features;
- Iterative feedback sessions with the client and development team helped refine these layouts before moving into detailed designs;
- Emphasized clarity and simplicity, ensuring wireframes addressed core user needs without unnecessary complexity.
High-Fidelity Prototypes
I incorporated a clean, industrial-inspired aesthetic that balanced functionality with modern UI design principles. I prioritized accessibility, using color contrasts, intuitive icons, and responsive layouts for various devices.
The design were developed with interactive elements that allowed stakeholders to experience task workflows, data input processes and dashboard feature.
User Testing
I conducted tests with factory workers and supervisors, simulating real-world tasks like creating maintenance logs, tracking equipment status, and generating reports.
I also collaborated with developers to implement changes quickly and validate them in subsequent test sessions
Conclusion
The final product was a robust application that revolutionized maintenance management in this following aspects: centralized data, streamlined workflows and reliability.
